Katie was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Due to her love of working and interacting with people, she studied Psychology and Social Welfare at the beautiful and cold campus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers!). She quickly developed a strong passion for social justice and advocacy. After taking an Education Policy class, she found herself compelled to become a part of the movement to distinguish the education opportunity gap. She joined an AmeriCorps program that placed her at West Career Academy and is now supporting teachers and students in the classroom as a paraprofessional, while also acting as a coordinator for student leadership opportunities. Katie is so proud to be a member of the amazing WCA family and staff. Seeing the students grow and progress through all of their struggles and adversity is not only a rewarding experience but is also truly inspiring.
In her free time, you will find Katie hiking, skiing, seeing live music, cooking, reading, and travelling as much as she possibly can. She also loves to tutor and volunteer with elementary students at the Cope Branch of the Boys and Girls Club just around the corner of West Career Academy.
