John Harrington, the Science/GED teacher here at WCA has been teaching in Denver Public Schools for almost 20 years. He started at Gove MS (now a parking lot) and spent 11 years at Morey MS. Then he was selected to lead the Middle and High School networks in Science Instruction, where he worked with 28 different schools for five years before returning to the classroom. He was raised in Navy family and spent his childhood years moving all over the US before graduating High School in North Chicago, IL. While in HS he started working as a camp counselor at a Boy Scout camp which inspired his love for teaching in a large urban area. He arrived in Colorado and has been here ever since.
He loves to cook, travel, attend cultural activities (like museums and Jazz in the Park), as well as spend time in the outdoors hiking, skiing, collecting mushrooms (to use in cooking), and bird watching. When he retires from DPS, he hopes to teach overseas someplace like Bolivia, Nepal or Sub-Saharan Africa, before enjoying his golden years in the mountains of Colorado and on the beach in the Caribbean.
